Stormbreak Earrings
There’s a particular beauty to the Maine coast when a storm is moving in. The water turns gray, the sky gets heavy, and all those soft, muted colors seem to run together.
I had these two pieces of Saturn jasper in my studio for quite a while, drawn to their pale gray-green color and the lines running through each stone but waiting for the right idea. Then, as a nor’easter approached New England, my aunt sent me a photograph of the Maine coast. Looking at that stormy water and sky, I immediately thought of these stones and knew exactly what I wanted to do with them.
I set each piece of Saturn jasper in sterling silver and built the earrings around their long, curved shapes. A textured sweep of silver follows the outside edge, giving the surface a weathered quality and creating a contrast with the smooth stone. A bezel-set faceted labradorite stone finishes each earring with just a touch of light and color.
They began as two stones I couldn’t quite figure out what to do with. Sometimes it just takes the right moment, or in this case, a storm, to see them differently.
Details:
Handcrafted in fine silver and sterling silver
Finished with a stippled texture on the front and a satin finish on the back
Features a pair of Saturn jasper with bezel-set faceted labradorite stones
Measures 2” long by 1/2” at the widest point
Sterling silver earwires
One-of-a-kind pair
