I found these vintage glass beads tucked away in an antique store and was immediately drawn to their color. That soft, translucent blue-green that reminds me of clear ocean water on a calm summer day. I brought them home without a particular plan, knowing I’d eventually find the right way to use them.
For this necklace, I paired three of the vintage beads with sterling silver forms that I made individually by hand. Each silver bead is individually shaped, textured and finished with subtle variations that play against the smooth, timeworn character of the glass. I love the contrast between old and new- the history already held in the vintage beads and the newly made silver surrounding them.
The finished piece feels relaxed and distinctly summery to me. There’s something about that watery blue-green and softly textured silver that brings me right back to the coast with the color of clear water, the warmth of summer, and those moments when everything seems to slow down for a while.
